Mexia drops road match in Groesbeck 3-0
In local district volleyball, the Mexia Ladycats lost in straight sets on the road Tuesday night to the Groesbeck Lady Goats, 20-25, 15-25, 14-25.
Lady Bulldogs take down Hubbard 3-0
It was the third-straight win for the Wortham Lady Bulldogs volleyball team on Tuesday night, Oct. 15. They defeated Hubbard at home in straight sets 25-14, 25-12, 2519. With the win, Wortham moves to 4-2 in district play and is in a two-way tie with Mart for second place in 2A-Division II, District 14.
Mexia last-second comeback falls short
As the final, 7-6, score would indicate, it was a hotly contested ballgame from start to finish Friday night, Oct. 18, at Blackcat Field. Mexia battled, scrapped and clawed for 48 minutes, but it was the visiting West Trojans who were the victors. The loss puts Mexia’s record at 3-4 overall and 1-1 in district play.
Mexia Pee Wees win 3 of 4
The Mexia Pee Wee football program took three out of four matchups at home against Trinity last weekend. Mexia’s age 4-5 flag team won 14-0, the age 8-9 tackle team won 36-8, and the age 10-12 tackle club won 42-30. The age 6-7 tackle team competed into overtime, but fell short 3028. Mexia will travel to Fairfield for the regular season finale on Saturday. Games begin at 9 a.m. Playoffs are slated to start on Nov. 2.
