The Wortham football team will host rival Dawson on Friday in a battle for second place in District 102A, Division II. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Both teams enter the final regular-season contest with 4-1 district records. Each has lost only to stateranked Mart, which has clinched the district championship.
The Coolidge volleyball team advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the first time in more than five years with a three-set sweep over Greenville Pioneer Technical Arts Academy (PTAA) in a bi-district match at Kemp on Monday. The Ladyjackets rolled to a 2511 victory in the opening set. They used a late surge to win the second set, 25-17, and finished it off with a 25-10 win in round three. Coolidge will host Abbott at 5 p.m. Thursday in a Class A area round match. Trailing 5-3 in the opening set, Coolidge scored 10 consecutive points and, after PTAA scored a point, came back with an eight-point run to take a commanding 21-6 advantage.
Two former Mexia Blackcat football players were on opposite sides of the field Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29, when University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) squared off with Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce.
