COVID-19 has been devastating for many small businesses in the United States, and consumers across the country have been encouraging each other to shop local. Local companies are especially significant in Texas, as the Lone Star State ranks second in the nation for the largest amount of small businesses. Texas is also among the top states that create new jobs via small businesses.

The Mexia Garden Club awarded the Most Creative Outdoor Christmas Lighting in their annual contest to Phillip and Docia Bain at 907 S. Ross. Their children Aiden and Bailey are pictured here with their father, Phillip. Mr. Bain said it took him and his children about two weekends to put up the lovely and fun decorations. The Mexia Garden Club presented the Most Traditional Outdoor Christmas Lighting award to Danny and Sher Feuge and their grandson, James. The lovely display is located at 900 Hinchliffe Road. They have been collecting the decorations for many years. The nativity scene was started by Mr. Ferge with a few parts before they were married. The collection has special meaning since they were married at Christmas time.
