No lack of excitement and spookiness existed in the first round of fall fests Tuesday, Oct. 26. Children, dressed in their best of ghost and goblin wear, and even some parents, found plenty to do in the way of fun at the event sponsored by McBay and Sims schools, and another sponsored by Navarro College on its Mexia campus. The Mexia Chamber of Commerce conducted its annual awards meeting Monday, Oct. 25, at Gibbs Library with Michael Jones, outgoing president, officiating his last session.
King Fisher entered the state penitentiary on Oct. 30, 1870, to do a five-year stretch for housebreaking. But the governor took pity on the 16-year-old convict and granted him a full pardon after only four months behind bars.
