Wortham whitewashes Meridian, improves to 2-0 in district

The Wortham Bulldogs had things well in hand against Meridian on Friday night as they built a 35-point halftime lead and rolled to a 49-0 victory at Wortham. The Bulldogs were up 35-0 at the intermission. Running back Tanner Bean entered the game needing 31 yards to break the school career rushing record. He shattered that with 99 yards in the first half. However, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound senior wanted one more carry in the second half. And it was an eventful one. Wortham got the ball to open the second half and started on Meridian’s 43-yard line. On the first play, Bean took a handoff and burst up the middle. At the 35-yard line he appeared to dribble the ball. He dropped it, but it bounced right back up to him and he never broke stride as he raced to the end zone for a 43-yard touchdown to give Wortham a 42-0 lead.
