VIRGINIA ELLEN HERRING

Virginia Ellen Herring of Shiloh passed away Jan. 30, 2022, in Waco at the age of 78. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 2. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, in the Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Montgomery and the Rev. David Snow officiating. Interment will be in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Herring was born Nov. 4, 1943, in Corsicana to John Maurice and Ethel Broun Fannin. She was raised on a dairy farm, where she learned the meaning of hard work while helping with the duties of the farm. She married Marion Edwin Herring June 8, 1963, in Corsicana and they were blessed with two children, John and Jena. They moved to Mexia in 1972 and then to Shiloh in 1973, where they made their home.

Virginia worked for Sears Tower in Dallas prior to going to work at the Mexia State School, where she retired after 25 years of service as medical secretary. She also worked for Shiloh Water Supply for several years.

Herring was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the bond that kept the family together. She was a dedicated Christian and longtime member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Corsicana. Herring loved to do Word Search Puzzles and watch Star Wars as often as she could. Her favorite characters were Mandalorian and Grogu.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Fannin; husband of 56 years, Marion Herring; brother, John Fannin; and sister, Thelma Jo Andrews.

Virginia is survived by her son, John Herring of Shiloh; daughter, Jena Rader of Forest Glade; grandchildren, Adam Mahfood of Springfield, Shane Mahfood of Freestone and Christopher Rader of Shiloh; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Rowen Mahfood and Margaret and Elizabeth Owens; one brother, Jimmy Fannin and wife Wanda; two sisters, Nettie Mae Montgomery and husband, Hugh and Martha Carpenter; sister-in-law, Barbara Fannin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
