SYLVIA PACE

Sylvia Pace passed away Oct. 9, 2021, at the age of 84.

Sylvia was born Jan. 12, 1937, to Ceburn Lee Tackitt and Jewel Miriam Massey. Since her parents were farmers, she grew up working in the fields with her brothers, C.A. and Leland. After graduating from Wortham High School, she went on to attend Navarro Junior College in Corsicana.

Sylvia met her husband, Marles, back in grade school and knew him most of her life. They lived just four miles apart, but they did not have their first date until the fall of 1957. They were married three years later on April 16, 1960. Seven years later they were blessed with their son, Clark Marles Pace. Sylvia and Marles loved to travel, so they took a vacation every year. Sometimes they relaxed on the beach, while other years they would travel to famous places to learn about their history. One of their most memorable vacations was the year they went to Washington, D.C.

Although Sylvia worked for the Housing Authority for a few years, the job she loved the most was working for the bank in Wortham. She really enjoyed being able to visit with all the different people every day. Sylvia spoke her mind and called it the way she saw it. When she was not at work, Sylvia enjoyed being part of Eastern Star and the Garden Club. She liked canning and was known for her delicious sweet pickles.

Sylvia leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Angie Pace; her grandchildren, Savanna and Montgomery and his wife Katelyn; her great-granddaughter, Catherine; her brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Robin Tackitt; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Pace and his wife Betty; her brother-in-law, Bryant Pace and his wife Camelia; her nieces and nephew from the Tackitt side, Leslie and Kari; her nieces and nephews from the Pace side, Calvin, Keith, Kathy, Bryon, Marty, Gina and Shelby; and lots of great-nieces and -nephews. The family would like to recognize Bruce Cantrell as the best friend of the family anyone could wish for. Thank you for being there for both Sylvia and Marles.

In order to honor Sylvia’s life, her family had planned a visitation on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 202 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Wortham Chapel. Funeral services were on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2at 11 at Victory Church located at 620 S. 3rd St., Wortham. Interment followed at Wortham Cemetery.

Corley-Porter Wortham Chapel is honored to handle the arrangements for Sylvia Pace.
