Sherry Jan Manning passed away at her home in Mexia on Aug. 20, 2023, at the age of 73. A Service of Death and Resurrection was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jaime McGlothlin officiating. Visitation with the family was held prior to the service beginning a 10 a.m.

Sherry was born Feb. 12, 1950, in Mexia to James Hoyt “Dick” Neese Jr. and Dolly Faye (Moore) Neese. She graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1968 where she was a twirler in the Mexia Blackcat Band, in addition to other activities. Continuing her education, Sherry graduated from Kilgore College, where she performed with the Rangerettes, and went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with her bachelor’s degree in Education.

Sherry ‘s teaching career spanned many years, prior to retiring from Mexia ISD. She was dedicated to her job and touched the lives of many children throughout her career.

Sherry was the proud mother of two boys, Dustin and Brandon, and an even prouder grandmother of four grandkids, Julianne, Alyssa, Carter and Grady. Due to her kids living out of state, she was always planning trips for the Christmas holidays and time off in the summer to visit them. There wasn’t anything she enjoyed more in life than spending time with her kids and grandkids; her family was her life.

Sherry was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Mexia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Dolly Neese; brother, James “Hoyt” Neese III; and nephew, James Hoyt “Jamie” Neese IV.

Sherry is survived by her sons, Dustin Manning and wife Brandy, Brandon Manning and wife Kelly; grandkids, Julianne Manning, Alyssa Manning, Carter Manning and Grady Manning; and nieces, Cindy Neese Vincent and Kari Neese Adams.
