Rosie was born Oct. 27, 1948, to Ednie Beck and Dorothy Avant Beck in Texas City. Growing up, she attended school in Forest Glade and then Mexia High School. As a child, Rose contracted polio and spent some time in the hospital, while her parents were only allowed to view her through a window. She did grow out of this illness and spent many hours the rest of her life on her feet.

Rosie worked at Varo in Mexia for a short period but worked as a waitress most of her life. She worked six days a week at the Highway Café with her parents, Ednie and Dorothy. All her life she loved talking about the old days, listening to music, and being with a group of family and friends.

Rose was united in marriage with Joe Thomas Pelton on Dec. 23, 1967. They lived some of the time in Houston but most of their life in Groesbeck. They had five children and two adopted sons. She and Joe kept the children busy and outdoors, with camping, fishing and hunting. Rosie said she had cooked so much fish for the family she wouldn’t eat another fish. Rose was a great cook, however, and loved to make baked goods. She had to start off every morning with black coffee and cookies and chose sweets before any other food.

Rose never met a stranger, and her home was full of the friends of her kids, even to sleeping on the floor. No one ever left her home hungry. After she was no longer working as a waitress, she stayed home to take care of the grandchildren. Everyone even the friends called her Granny. Granny didn’t judge anyone, but you better not mess with her kids or grandkids. She loved and lived for them.

She talked on the phone with her sister Betty Ann every day, and they enjoyed trips to Waco together. She also enjoyed going with J.J., Zayden and Kaberian (aka Bubba) to the flea market at Waco and to Walmart. She was very active until the past week.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Ednie and Dorothy Beck; maternal grandparents, Wiley Avant and Cevilla Roark Avant; paternal grandparents, R.K. Beck and Ida Allen Beck; husband Joe Thomas Pelton in 1988; stepson Kenneth Irvin; inlaws Lester and Lillia Mae Pelton; brother-in-law Bobby Gene Pelton and his wife, Linda Pelton; brothers-in-law Charles Rosson and Dewey Ray LaFoy; and numerous aunts and uncles; and her best friends, Bill O’Neal and Jeannie Thompson.
