Ronnie Pat ‘RP’ Spillers

Ronnie Pat “RP” Spillers, born March 18, 1935, in Mexia to Roy and Mary Spillers, passed away peacefully at Rose Trail Nursing and Rehab in Tyler, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at the age of RP graduated from Mexia High School in Mexia, Class of 1954. He was an exceptional football player (offensive tackle and defensive lineman), lettering all four years. Coach Truett Little was his coach at that time. He earned a full scholarship to Rice University in Houston. RP turned down the scholarship to stay home and work in the oil field with his dad. Many years later he went on to become a master carpenter, home-builder and custom cabinet-builder, owning a successful company in Tyler.

RP married his soulmate and the love of his life, Marguerite Hensley Jones, on July 12, 1963.

RP lived a full life. His love of the Lord was very apparent in the way he lived his life. He was an active and longtime member of Flint Baptist Church in Flint. He enjoyed family gatherings and family trips, especially to Red River, N.M., and Colorado. Being an outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting. RP was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and uncle.

RP was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Spillers; his wife, Marguerite (Hensley) Spillers; his brothers, Danny Maurice Spillers JR.; grandson, Wilmer Ray Creecy; great-granddaughter, Natalie Danielle Bannister; and great-grandson, Nicholas Caleb Terry. RP is survived by his sons, Wilmer Creecy and wife Debra of Golden, Stephen Spillers, Russell Spillers and wife Lisa, Sheldon “Mickey” Spillers and wife Suzanne, of Tyler; daughters, Sheryl “Sheri” Czajkowski and husband Richard of Magnolia, Stephanie “Kay” Stephens of Houston, Susan “Patty” Dudley and husband Dale of Whitehouse; brother, Bobby Roy Spillers of Flint; and sisters, Linda Bell of Mexia, Mary Spillers Hughes of Old Union and Peggy Blanchard of Mexia. He was blessed with 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren; and many, nieces and nephews.
