ROBERT ‘BUCK’ LYNDON ALLEN

Mr. Robert “Buck” Lyndon Allen, 84, of Thornton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, in Groesbeck.

Buck was born May 25, 1936, in Lost Prairie to R.C. and Lou Holder Allen. On Aug. 11, 1956, he married Donna Marie Vest, and they were happily married until her death in January of this year.

Buck started a career as a welder and pipeliner, an occupation that he thoroughly enjoyed. This field of endeavor gave him the opportunity to travel all around the country pipelining, meeting people and making new friends. He maintained many friendships with former employees of Brown and Root and Fluor Construction Company. Buck was also a member of the Pipelining Union #798.

In his leisure time, Buck enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. Family was very important, and he loved to spend time with his kids, grandkids, and his angry little dog – Harley, who was his constant companion for over 19 years. Harley was a one-person dog and Buck got a kick out of him snapping at others who attempted to come close.

Buck was a member of the Living Proof Church of Groesbeck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Lou Allen; his wife of 63 years, Donna Allen; grandson Andrew Shockley; sister Retha Spence; and his favorite dog, Harley.

Buck is survived by two daughters, Brenda McDaniel and husband Charles, of Groesbeck, and Rhonda Yawn and husband Carlton, of Groesbeck; grandchildren Charlie McDaniel, Rachel Newman and husband Tim, Melody McDaniel, Elizabeth Shockley and Dustin Ferguson, Timothy Shockley and wife Tammy; and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Saturday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 27, in the Lost Prairie Cemetery with Brother John Caribin officiating.
