Rita Kay Drennan

Rita Kay Drennan, 71, of Teague, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, in Mexia. She was born in Dallas on March 31, 1951, to Elmer Edward and Willie Fay (Carroll) Rushing.

Rita spent her working career as a nurse. Her passion was taking care of other people. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, working in her garden and solving puzzles. She also enjoyed baking, with cookies and cinnamon rolls being her specialties. After taking care of people most of her life, her son, Lee Marvin, was able to care for her in her last years. She enjoyed attending church with her son at Peace Ministries in Teague.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Hines; her sister, Mary Fay; brothers, Glen Rushing and Marshall Rushing.

She is survived by her sons Lee Marvin Drennan of Teague, Glen Hines of Soper, Okla., Willie Hines of San Antonio; daughter, Tina Hines of Paris; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral home in Mexia. Visitation starts at 11 a.m. until the service begins. Interment will be at Thornton Cemetery. Brother Bob Sullivan will officiate. Pallbearers are Lee Drennan, Glen Hines, Willie Hines, Jimmy Lewis, David Carroll, Vernon Miles and Jim Grayson.
