Ricky Dale Blackmon

Ricky Dale Blackmon, of Tehuacana, passed away June 26, 2019, in Waco at the age of 64.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Pastor Michael Hensley officiating.  Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery.  Ricky Blackmon, Bobby Carroll, Nicholas Blackmon, Paul Carroll, Jimmie Sterling and Tony Wilson will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Noey, Timmie Sterling, Earl Sterling, Bobby Sterling, Kenneth Mathison and the MSSLC Motor Pool.

Ricky was born May 18, 1955, in Mexia, Texas to Fred Joseph and Nelda Lou Sterling Blackmon.  He was a lifelong resident of the Mexia area.  As a young man, he began his career as a mechanic working for his uncle “Baldy” Blackmon at Blackmon’s Used Cars.  He recently retired after completing 26 years of service as a mechanic in the Mexia State Supported Living Center Motor Pool.

Ricky married Dixie Harringer on Dec. 6, 1985.  Family and the time he spent with them was the most important part in his life.  He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and a friend to many.  He, like most grandfathers, thought his grandchildren “hung the moon” and could do very little wrong.  The saying “anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Dad” truly describes Ricky. He was also the kind of guy that would “give anyone the shirt off his back.”

Ricky loved cars, being a mechanic and attending car shows with his boys.  He enjoyed baseball, football, 42 and pitching horseshoes and was a devoted Texas Longhorn fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Hollie, Rachel and Nicole Carroll; father-in-law, Michael O’Connell; sister-in-law, Beverly Baker; and brothers-in-law, Glen Rogers, Jerry Duke and Gary Cook.

Ricky is survived by his wife of 34 years, Dixie Blackmon of Tehuacana; children, Ricky D. Blackmon Jr. and wife Sara, Kimberly Noey and husband Brandon of Mexia, and Bobby Carroll of Mexia; grandchildren, Nicholas Blackmon, Alex Blackmon, McKenzie Carroll, Jayden Carroll, Colt Carroll, Tyler Cobb and Michael Noey; sisters, Genia Duke, Debra Rogers and husband Richard, Scarlet Floyd and husband Jace, all of Tehuacana, and Darlene Cook of Oklahoma; brother, Joey Blackmon and wife Kari; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
