Richard ‘Brother Rick’ Alton GrAy

A celebration of the life of Brother Rick Gray, 67, of Chandler, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Faith Baptist Church, in Chandler, with David Hutchison and Associate Pastor Boogie Wynn officiating.

Brother Rick passed away Oct. 12, 2022, in Chandler. Richard Alton Gray was born Sept. 18, 1955, in Dallas. He was the son of Dickie Joe Gray and Rebecca Ann (Wright) Gray.

He graduated from Skyline High School in Dallas, Class of 1974, then attended Baylor University in Waco, majoring in mischief and subsequently obtaining a Ph.D.

Brother Rick married Cherry Lynn Brown on Nov. 19, 1977, and from this union came three children; Heather, Michael and Ben.

In 1999, he dedicated his life to full-time ministry, serving at Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia and then at the Faith Baptist Church until his passing. The children and student ministries held a special place in his heart as he devoted time to the after-school Bible club (Beach Club) at Chandler Intermediate and walked alongside students during their summer camps. During his free time, Brother Rick enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Perhaps his favorite hat to wear was being “Poppy” to his five grandchildren. Brother Rick’s legacy will be remembered by all those he knew and loved.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include wife, Cherry Gray of Chandler; children, Heather Powell and husband Jeff of Chandler, Michael Gray of Kingsville, Ben Gray and wife Hilary of College Station; mother, Becky Gray of Dallas; brothers, Mike Gray and wife Debbie of Dallas, Phil Gray and wife Amy of Highland Park, Andy Gray and wife Dawn of Dallas; grandchildren, Madi Powell, Garrett Powell, Ashleigh Powell, Rebekah Gray, Hazel Gray as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

If Brother Rick was with us today, he would want you to know that Jesus loves you, died to save you and Jesus is preparing a place for you that he (Rick) can now see for himself.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
