Peggy Wright

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Peggy Ruth Wright, passed away June 12, 2023, at the age of 91 at Skilled Care of Mexia.

Peggy was born on Oct. 4, 1931, in Wortham, to Annie Ruth Teer Pruitt and William Peyton Pruitt. She attended Wortham schools and, later, attended Mc-Lennan Community College where she received an associate degree in nursing to become a Registered Nurse. She later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Sciences from the University of Texas at Galveston. She worked for many years at the Mexia State School as an RN supervisor, prior to retirement.

Peggy married Donald Dean Wright on March 13, 1948. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March 1998. They made their home in Point Enterprise during their entire marriage. There, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise.

Peggy loved her family with all her heart. She loved to shop for antiques and, also, owned her own antique shop for many years. She loved cooking, sewing, and reading. She and her husband enjoyed camping, especially when they took the grandchildren along.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Dean; son, Donald Earl “Donny;” granddaughter, Deana Ruth; sister, Wanda Wright, and brothers, Peyton Pruitt, Bobby Pruitt, and Curtis Pruitt.

Peggy is survived by her son, Danny Wright and his wife Joan of Point Enterprise; her grandchildren, Melanie Beatty and husband Phil of Fort Worth, Stacy Wright and wife Mykle Ann of Kirvin, Lori York and husband Robert of Point Enterprise, Jody Wright of Fairfield, and Jami DeBorde and husband Cole of Dew; 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. We all called her “Mamaw.” She will be missed and will never be forgotten.

We would like to extend our forever gratitude to her around-the-clock sitters who cared for her as if she were their own mother. They all treated her with tenderness and compassion, which made it easier for her.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at the First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise with Brother Don Morton officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Interment will be at Point Enterprise Cemetery. Pallbearers will her great grandsons – Mason Don Wright, Kristopher Don Wright, Zachary York, Joshua York, Alex Beatty and Ethan Wright. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ian Wright, Eli DeBorde, Corbin DeBorde and Kent Kendall.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the First Baptist Church of Point Enterprise, or American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
