OLGA JEAN BROOKS WATSON

Olga Jean Brooks Watson passed away on Dec. 28, 2020, at her home at the age of 90. She was born on April 10, 1930, in Leon County, to Starling and Arrie Grimes Brooks. She grew up in Flynn and attended school at Concord. She was one of 10 children.

Jean worked for a short time in Houston before deciding that “City Life” was not for her, so she moved back home to Flynn and helped her mother on the farm.

Jean enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, canning and spending time with her family. She was not only a housewife but was a great help on the family farm. She was always willing to help in any way possible. In her later years when she was unable to physically work, she quilted patchwork throws and gave them to many people that touched her life.

She lived in Mexia for the last 16 years and was a member of the Tehuacana United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Starling and Arrie Grimes Brooks; husband Virgil Watson; five sisters, and two brothers; and grandchildren Jason Watson and Nathan Cooley.

Jean is survived by her five children, Linda Dawson and husband Garland, Edna Smith, Allen Watson, LeeAnn Cholopisa and Dorothy Bates and husband David; daughter-in-law Robbie Watson; grandchildren Amy, Clint, Brian, Kim, Brian C., Kristi, Kevin, Valerie, Matthew, Alex, Jessie, Rachel, Liz, Larry and Rea; and by great-grandchildren Bryson, Brantley, Brendon, Brooke, Kerry, Evan, Kassidy, Katey Jo, James, Jacob, Devin, Jayde, John William, Krece, Brace, Wyatt, Breanna, Jayme, Chrislynn and Bailey; and great-great-grandchildren Tripp, Rylie and soon-to-bearriving Kooper. She is further survived by her sisters, Ophelia Walker and Angie Duncan.

Funeral services will be held at the Tehuacana United Methodist Church on Dec. 31, at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Chris Rowe officiating. Interment to follow at the Watson Family Cemetery in Venetia. Visitation will be Dec. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bates, Kevin Watson, Matthew Watson, Brian Cravey, Devin Coleman and Evan Groholski. Honorary pallbearers are Bryson Cooley, Brantley Bellah, Krece Bates, Brace Bates, James Watson, Jacob Watson, John William Coleman, Brendon Bellah and Wyatt McDade.
