Mary Deania (Deanie) Williams Cox was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Dallas. She died at 93 in Houston on Nov. 28, 2020.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Miller Cox, and her parents Ina Mary and William Wallace Williams.

Mary Deania Williams married Ray Cox June 20, 1945. They were longterm residents of Mexia and moved to Houston in 1972. In 1998, they returned to the place they called home, Mexia, and built their dream house in the country. Mary Deania was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. Her life work was making them all happy. In 2010, she and Ray returned to Houston to be closer to family. It is there that she spent her time doting on her husband, children, grandchildren and beloved dog, Babe.

During her life she was a teacher, extraordinary artist and horticulturist. Her collection of bromeliads and orchids was beyond compare.

In honor of Mary Deania, donations may be made to First Methodist Church of Mexia where several generations of her family attended and were christened. Donations may also be made to Crossroads Hospice, Houston, for the loving care they gave her during her last years.

A graveside service will be held in Mexia on Wednesday, Dec. 2, with the Rev. Jen Pick officiating.
