Marilyn Dean Nichols Kerley

Marilyn Dean Nichols Kerley, of Teague, passed away on Jan. 13, 2022, in Mexia at the age of 75. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, in the Salem Cemetery with Pastor Roy Prather officiating.

Marilyn was born July 12, 1946, in Teague, to Marion Austin Nichols and Mary Sue (Vance) Vicars. After graduating high school and completing one year of college, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps where she proudly served her country for three years. Prior to retiring, Marilyn worked a total of 40 years for various businesses. She worked for the Veterans Administration, Texas Instruments, Sears, Globe Life Insurance, Pasadena Police Department and Southwestern Bell.

Marilyn married Tommy Lee Kerley on April 11, 1994, in Temple. Although she, never had any children of her own, she dearly loved her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

After Marilyn retired, she returned to her hometown of Teague in 2007. She lived in several towns but Teague remained her home. She was a longtime member of the 8th Avenue Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Kerley; father, M. A. Nichols Sr.; mother, Mary Sue Vicars; sisters, Norma Sue Bryant and Carol Annett Nichols; brother, Jeffrey Lyn Vicars; and niece, Rebecca Sue Isham.

Marilyn is survived by her brother, M.A. “Butch” Nichols Jr. and wife Evie of Mexia; nephew, Nick Nichols and wife Kera of Mexia; great-niece, Kamryn of Mexia; great-nephew, Case Nichols of Mexia; as well as other nieces and nephews; and special companion, her dog, Franky.
