MAGGIE MARIA BAKER-SMITH

Services for Maggie Maria Baker-Smith, who died Feb. 14, 2022, in Houston Methodist Hospital in Baytown, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Mount Rose Church in Crosby.

Visitation will precede the service from 10 a.m. until service time also at the church.

Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in the Grove Island Cemetery in Mexia. Walker Funeral Home of Crosby is in charge of arrangements.

Baker was born to Charles and Eva Baker on June 30, 1955, in Mexia. She was the only daughter of four children. She graduated from Mexia High School in 1973 and later from Texas State Technical Institute as a dental assistant.

In 1980 she married Albert Smith Jr. and they made their home in Crosby, where their son, Brian, and daughter, Quiana, were born. She was later employed as a para-professional for special needs children in the Crosby Independent School District.

Prior to Smith’s illness, she was a dedicated and committed member of the Mt. Rose Church, “The City of Refuge,” in Crosby, where she served as a member of the Benjamin Cell Group as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Pastor’s Aid, a communion altar acolyte and she was active in the Department of Home Missions.

Smith leaves to mourn her passing by her husband of 41 years, Albert Smith Jr.; a son, Brian Smith (Brittaney) of Houston; a daughter, Quiana Tartt of Houston; five grandchildren, Samuel, Charlize, Arielle, Zayla and Chase; three brothers, Charles Baker (Rhonda) of San Jose, CA, Ronald Baker (Toni) of Taylor and Adrian Baker (Stephanie) of Mexia; three aunts, Willie Mae Thomas, Lois Conner and Pearl Gentry and many other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Norman, Ryan Baker, Jared Baker, Christopher Norman, Christopher Norman, Jr. and Camrron Norman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Baker Jr., Ronald Baker, Adrian Baker, Toby Gray and Jason Glover.
