LOLA B. SIMS

April 8, 1940, what a wonderful day! On this day, Lola B. Sims was born to the late Johnnie Lee Sims and Leola Smith Calhoun. She grew up in a loving home and formed an unbreakable bond with her family. Although Lola was the oldest of the family, she was wise beyond her years and would later become the pillar of the family.

Lola was a native of Mexia and attended Woodland Public High School. She confessed her life in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Tehuacana under the Rev. Booker. Lola later joined Antioch Baptist Church under Pastor Cleo High of Mexia.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers Johnnie Lee Sims Jr. and Wallace Calhoun; three children; and two grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Melinda West of Groesbeck, Diann Gibson of Houston, and Daisy McWilliams of Lawton, Okla.; sisters Mattie Smith, Beverly Jones, Sheila (Wayne) Wafer, Leila (John) Bible, Lottie Calhoun, Cassandra (Lynn) Anderson; brothers Eddie (Shirley) Calhoun, Alvin (Christine) Calhoun and Castiderra (Rejenne) Calhoun; special friends the Rev. Cleo High, Evelyn Jean Baker and Mittie Powell; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held on Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church.

Arrangements and services entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home.
