Larry Donnell Reed

Mr. Larry Donnell Reed was born Dec. 12, 1949, to the parentage of Isom and Vivian Morgan Reed in the Sandy Community (Coolidge). He was the second of 11 children. Larry passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at Providence Hospice Care in Waco.

Larry accepted Christ and joined Union Memorial United Methodist Church in Sandy at an early age. He was raised in the church.

He attended Echols School and graduated from Dunbar High School in May 1968. Larry moved to Dallas after high school and married Debra Anderson. One child, Marcus Reed, was born to this union. Over the years with Sheryl Giles and Emma Rivers, Larry had three more children: Larry D. Reed Jr., Cerita Rivers and Coque Reed.

Larry was a jack of all trades and worked various jobs in Dallas, Waco and Austin. He moved back to Mexia in the early 2000s and resided there until his health began to fail. He moved to Waco to live with his son, Larry Jr. in December 2018.

Larry lived `his life his way. He never met a stranger and he had many friends. He had a good heart and was a good listener. He gave good advice to many. He knew the streets and spoke the truth.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents in 2004 and 2005; his sister Cathy in 1962; his sister Quindo Franccine Mathews on same day in 2015; his brothers Walter Ray Reed in 2002, Isaac Reed in 2014, and Isom Reed Jr. in 2015.

Larry leaves to mourn his passing his four children, Marcus Reed (Brenda) of Austin, TX, Larry D. Reed Jr. (Cathryn) of Waco, Cerita Rivers of Hearne, and Coque Reed of Round Rock; four brothers, Robert Reed (Monica), Elmer Kenneth Reed (Linda), Leroy Reed, and Charlie Reed; four sisters, Evelyn Reed, Sharon Reed Freeman (Willie), Vivian Eileen Reed Kirven (Clarence), and Tammy Reed; eight grandchildren, Marc, LaMarjia, Legend, Loyal, Na’Quira, Nai’Shawn, Zamia, and Zyan; one uncle, Robert Lewis Reed; one aunt, Lela Neomi Hemphill Reed; many nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at Union Memorial United Methodist Church, 414 LCR 180, Sandy Community, Coolidge.
