Laressa McMinn-Archibald

Iva Laressa McMinn-Archibald, 79, of Mexia, went home to her heavenly Father on June 12, 2020. She passed away peacefully at Skilled Care of Mexia. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 14, at Temple Baptist Church in Mexia, with Brother Michael Vestal and Jerry Fulton officiating. Interment followed at Lost Prairie Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, June 13, at Corley-Porter Funeral Home.

Laressa was born July 27, 1940, in Personville, to W.D. (Doug) and Iva Dean (Deanie) McClaran.

Laressa was preceded in death by her parents; husband Reginald McMinn and husband L.D. Archibald. She is survived by her daughter, Regina Stone and husband Curtis, and granddaughters Jacie and Julie Stone, all of Decatur; brother Dewitt McClaran and wife Charlene, of Granbury; special aunts Faye McClaran and Bonnie Johnson; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends; and her special friend, Jackey Rush.

Laressa was a proud member of the 1958 Class of Mexia High School and enjoyed their yearly homecoming get-togethers. After high school she began her career in bookkeeping where she worked for Beene Motors, Western Auto, First Mexia Bank, Limestone County Tax Office and Mexia I.S.D. She retired from Mexia I.S.D. in May 2005.

Laressa loved to sing, and in earlier years was a member of a Gospel quartet and was often asked to sing at church and other occasions. She was the song leader at Temple Baptist Church for many years until her voice began to give out. She also loved to dance and enjoyed meeting friends at Sul Ross in Waco, when she was able to attend. Family, friends and church meant the world to Laressa, but most important was her relationship with her Lord and Savior. She walked a life of faith that showed in good times and bad. Our hearts grieve, but we have the assurance of seeing her again.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill McClaran, Zebulon Andrade, Robert LaFoy, Mikal LaFoy, Brian Samford and Kevin Samford.

Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church, Mexia, and Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

An online guestbook is available at www.corleyporterfuneralhome.com and by selecting the Laressa McMinn-Archibald obituary.
