John Joe Leslie Evans

John Joe Leslie Evans, known to friends as “Joe,” passed away on Sept. 26,  2019, at the age of 61. He was born in Wortham on Jan. 23, 1958, to Luther and Gladys Evans.  Growing up, he attended Beulah Baptist Church. Joe dedicated his life to Christ at a young age.

Joe graduated from Wortham High School in 1977 and attended Texas State Technical College where he studied Auto Mechanics.

During his career, Joe was employed as a bus driver for Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the Dallas Independent School District, and most recently he drove charter buses.

He attended The Open Door Church in Dallas.

Joe was a Jack-of-all-Trades. He was experienced in construction and remodeling, and in his spare time he was a fan of automobiles. He also enjoyed fishing, barbecuing,  attending sporting events. Joe has travelled from coast to coast, all over the United States, and made many friends throughout his journey.  He always had a smile on his face, and with his great sense of humor, he could make anyone laugh.

He is survived by his children,  Emonty Means (Sandra), Chris Majors (Chamille), Jessica Connor (Chris), Nicole Skinner (Leavail), Brandon Evans (Katrina), Cedric Evans,  Earlena Evans, and Ashley Evans; 12 grandchildren; siblings,  Leola Humber,  Luther Evans (Bertha), Carolyn Washington, Rita Busby,  and David Evans (Cheryl); and a host of other relatives and friends.
