JIMMY WADE THOMAS

Funeral services for Jimmy Wade Thomas, 84, of Mexia, were held Sunday, Jan. 17, at McWhorter Funeral Home with Brother Dicky Mauk officiating. Private interment followed at Hopewell Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service.

Jimmy was born July 8, 1936, in Alliance Hall, to Milton Oliver “Bill” and Carl Lee Waits Thomas; and he passed from this life Jan. 12, 2021, in Groesbeck. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Frost, Hillsboro, Linden and Gilmer, and retired after 28 years. Jimmy was a member of First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Deb Howell and husband Philip, of Gilmer; son Brad Thomas, of Longview; step daughter Dawn Higgins, of Groesbeck; sister Glynda Underwood and husband Jim, of Austin; grandchildren Misty Sprouse and husband Dennis, of Gilmer, Meridith Jones and husband Ryan, of Farmers Branch, Wyatt Turk, of Round Rock, Claire Higgins, of Denton, and Clayton Turk, of Robinson; great-grand children Keegan and MaKenna Sprouse, of Gilmer, and Cooper and Bennett Jones, of Farmers Branch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Carl Lee Thomas; his first wife, Bettye Thomas Parish; his second wife, Jane Hancock Thomas; his wife, Noma Nell Thomas; his sister, JoAnne Reeves Thomas; and by his stepson, Scott Higgins.

Memorial donations may be made to Safe Haven Equine Rescue, 4994 FM 2088, Gilmer, TX 75644, Providence Hospice, 107 E. Commerce St., Mexia, TX 76667 or First United Methodist Church, 203 W. State St., Groesbeck, TX 76642.
