Jimmie Ruth Payne Posey

Jimmie Ruth Payne Posey went to her eternal home in Heaven with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at 90 years of age. She was born July 12, 1932, in Patmos, Ark., to Charlie and Polly (Bryson) Payne. Agraduate of Mexia high School, Jimmie met the love of her life, Bennie Charles Posey, at the Custard Cup in Mexia, where she was a car hop. They married Feb. 23, 1952, in the old Calvary Baptist Church on South McKinney Street. Jimmie went to work for The Department of Public Welfare until her children were born, then she became a stay-at-home mother. After their children were all in school, she went back to work at the Mexia State School, as a secretary in various jobs, and finally retiring as secretary to the assistant superintendent, after many years of service. Jimmie was a devoted Christian. She loved the Lord and served him faithfully. She also loved her church and especially her Sunday school class at the First Baptist Church. Jimmie loved and cherished her family. Just as most grandmothers, there was nothing that compared to the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were extra special.

She is survived by sons, Phillip Charles Posey (Deena) of Powell, Ronald Paul Posey of Mexia, and Timothy Karl Posey (Wendy) of Trenton. She is also survived by sister, Nancy Payne Yanca of Parker Colo; grandchildren, Chris (Megan) Posey of Eureka, Kyle (Cassidy) of Hockley, and Mark Anderson (Julie) of North Carolina, Emily Anderson of Austin and Seth Anderson of Arlington; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Colton, Livi, Brayson and Parker Posey, Colton, Colby and Kale Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Polly Payne; and husband of 62 years, Bennie Charles Posey; brothers, Orville, Billy, Fred and Frank Payne; and sisters Bobbie Walker, Tiny Griffin Robinson, Valley Griffin and Doris Cooper.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at First Baptist Church of Mexia with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield and the Rev. Jerry Fulton officiating, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Kirvin. Chris Posey, Kyle Posey, Colton Posey, Dan Posey, Michael Posey and David Griffin will serve as pallbearers.
