Jerry Archer

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jerry Archer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 81. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Jerry was born to John Ray and Margaret Archer on Feb. 23, 1942, in Groesbeck. He lived a life defined by honor, resilience and unwavering dedication to his family. His early years were marked by the values of integrity and service instilled by his upbringing. Jerry graduated from Coolidge ISD in 1960, completed one term of enlistment in the United States Air Force in 1968, followed by graduating from the University of North Texas in 1973 with his bachelor’s in business administration. He retired from Nucor Steel in 2008 after 27 years of service.

Jerry cherished his family dearly. He greatly enjoyed hunting, watching his grandkids’ sporting events, and spending quality time with all.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darlene Archer; and children, Robert Murphey, Megan Beldin and husband Danny, and Jami Archer, who will miss his dry wit, unwavering guidance, and calm demeanor. He is also survived his cherished grandchildren, Amber Maddox and husband Grady, Ashley Murphey, Bryce Sterling, Alexis Beldin, Daniel Beldin, David Murphey, Rylie Murphey, Rhyan Archer- Good, Raven Burkhart and husband Ryan, Hunter Morton and wife Carson, Garret Morton, and Seth Norris; siblings, Mary Mann and husband Robert, Martha Dowdle and husband Millard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Archer; inlaws, Donald and Mary Shamblin; and son, John Murphey.

Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. at Blair Stubbs Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 21. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Point Enterprise Cemetery with Ray Jones officiating.

Bryce Sterling, Daniel Beldin, Aidyn Anderson, David Murphy, Garret Morton and Hunter Morton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Norris, Joel Wells, Ryan Burkhart, Danny Finley, Chase Mann, and Greg Lemke.
