JEAN POSEY

Funeral services for Jean Posey, 90, were held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Brother Scott Matthews officiated. Interment followed the services at Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Posey passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at her residence near Teague.

She was born in Pasadena on Feb.9, 1930, but lived in Teague almost all of her life. She married W. K. Posey Jr. on Aug. 26, 1950, and shared more than 62 years of marriage together until being separated by his death on July 14, 2013. Mrs. Posey was a longtime and very accomplished barrel racer and competed in numerous rodeos for many years. She was a dedicated homemaker and a wonderful seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothes. Mrs. Posey was a great cook and often cooked for her large family. She was a very benevolent and giving person and many times made sacrifices to give to others. Mrs. Posey was a member of First Baptist Church in Teague.

She is survived by five children, Billy Posey and wife Genell of Burleson, Vickilynn Sunday and husband Mike of Mexia, Judy Bates and husband Tom of Teague, Kim Story and husband Larry of Mexia, and Karri Minefee and husband James of Teague; 12 grandchildren, Will Posey and wife Kristyn, Mandi McReynolds, Kelly McReynolds, Matt McReynolds and wife Susan, T.J. Bates, Brittnee Stroade and husband Randy, Emily Jones, Stephanie Ritchey and husband Robby, Lance Story and wife Tabitha, Wesley Story, Jeff Kitchens and wife Becky, and Jami DeBorde and husband Cole; granddaughter-in-law, Amy Bates; five step-grandchildren, Cody Sunday, Sandra Joyner, Shellee Walker and husband Bryan, Ashley Minefee, and Cliff Minefee; 46 great-grandchildren; one brother, H. D. Campbell and wife Abby of Victoria; other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Posey was preceded in death by her husband, W. K. Posey Jr.; her parents, Lois Odell and Grace Essie Campbell; four brothers; great-grandson, Luke Bates; great-granddaughter, Maki McRey LeNoir; and an infant great-grandson, Baby Boy Ritchey.

The family wishes to express thanks to a special caregiver, Tina Jones.
