Ima Marie Dabney

Ima Marie Dabney, longtime resident of Mexia, passed away April 25, 2019, at the age of 93.  A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at the Prairie Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Cundieff officiating.

Ima was born June 21, 1925, in Prairie Hill, to Charles Newton and Lela Phillips Isham.  She married her loving husband, Ernest Dabney, in 1939, and they were blessed with two children, Glynn and Martha.

Being raised on a farm, Ima learned the meaning of hard work at an early age, a trait she would continue throughout her life.  Ima retired from the Mexia State School after 30 years of service as a Dorm Supervisor.  She and Ernest also owned and operated a store on Highway 171 and FM 2838 in Mexia for several years.

Ima was a devoted wife and mother.  She enjoyed gardening, raising and canning vegetables, listening to music and loved pampering her dogs/ companions, Skipper and Wishbone.  She was very independent, never expecting anything from anyone and willing to express her opinion on any matter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest Dabney; son Glynn Dabney; infant daughter Martha; brothers Emory, Weldon, C.N. and Joe Isham.

Ima is survived by two nephews, James Isham and wife Kathy, of Lorena, and Terry Isham; sister-in-law Scottie Isham; companions Skipper and Wishbone; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
