HOWARD NEMONS

Howard Nemons was born on March 16,1935, to Earnest and Jessie Mae Nemons. He attended Booker T. Washington in Teague and graduated in the Class of 1955.

Howard worked for several years at Schulte Ranch, training Appaloosa horses. He also worked for several years as a supervisor at Donie Chair Company, and retired from Mexia State School laundry as supervisor after over 25 years.

Howard, or Smokey as lovingly known, was well known for his BBQ and homemade sauce, as well as his homemade hog head cheese. Family members and friends looked forward to his smoked meats! He perfected his method of BBQ so much so, that he was approached many times for his recipe.

Howard married Rubia Nemons in 1964, and raised six children together.

Left to lovingly cherish his memory are Ronnie (Barbara), Sharron, Vanessa (Vernon), Charles, and Greg; 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Alice, Willie Ruth, Nell and Gene; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by wife, Rubia Dell; son, Michael; parents, Ernest and Jessie; sister, Lucy Mae; brothers, Ernest (Shelly), Charles Ray, and Henry (Lewis).

Services will be held at the Mexia High School auditorium at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. Dinner will be served to go. MASKS MANDATORY.

There will also be a Zoom Memorial, at 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 11.
