Frank E. Morton

A service honoring and celebrating the Homegoing of the Legendary Frank E. Morton Sr. was held Saturday, Sept. 21, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Minister Clifford E. McIlveen and Superintendent Anthony Taylor Sr. officiating.

Interment was in the Shiloh Cemetery, Oakwood, directed by Moore’s Angelic Funeral Home, of Teague.

Frank Morton Sr.  was born on Aug. 19, 1930, in Freestone County, to Wilbur and Albertha Morton. He was their oldest child. He grew up in the Butler community and graduated from Butler High School. He was a faithful member of Saint Hill Church of God in Christ, where he served as deacon, served on the Finance Committee, usher, and wherever he was needed.

Frank married Alice Mae Vernon on June 20, 1949.

He worked at Ivy Feed Mill for 30-plus years. Frank rode horses and worked cattle in his younger years. He also loved helping people and giving advice.

Frank went to be with the Lord on Sept. 15, 2019, at Providence Health Center Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Albertha Morton; wife Alice Mae Morton; daughter Sarah Morton; grandsons Reggie Morton Jr., Guy Nolan McShan, Wayne Morton Jr.; sister Audrey Bradford; brothers Victor Earl Morton and Billy Burns; and great-grandchildren Jai Alyce and Ashton Ty.

Those who will cherish his memories are sons Everett Morton, Wayne Morton and wife Fannettie, of Oakwood, Frank Morton Jr. and wife Muriel, Robert Morton and wife Dorothy, and Reggie Morton, of Fairfield; daughters Ruby Gatson and husband Tyree Jr., Cynthia Jarmon and husband Billie Jr., and Alma McShan, of Fairfield; brother George Morton and wife Jessie, of Houston; sisters Gwendolyn Ables and husband Allen, and Bonnie Grover and husband Joe, all of Waco; sister-in-law Mary Lampkin, of Waco; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews; and special friends William Coleman and Clara McIlven and family.
