Ethel Wilmar Miller

Ethel Wilmar Miller, of Hubbard, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, in the Manor Healthcare Residence, in Mexia, among loving family and devoted friends.

Viewing and visitation with the family was held Friday, Jan. 18, 6-7 p.m. in the Lovely Hope Baptist Church, 701 S.W. 2nd Street in Hubbard. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Christian Lighthouse Church, 503 S.W. 1st Street, in Hubbard, with the Rev. Gary Burton officiating and the Rev. Marcus Simmons as eulogist. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, also in Hubbard.

Ethel W. Miller was the only child born to Bernita, “Mrs. Shang” and Q.T. Wilburn, in Henderson. She grew up in Hubbard, where she completed her public school education.

She went on to receive the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Paul Quinn College, in Waco.

Ms. Miller had been an elementary school teacher, worked in the public school Head Start Program, was a Foster Grandparent Volunteer, was employed by the Mexia State School and retired from the Hubbard Independent School District, in Hubbard.

She was an active member of The Lovely Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Mothers Board and the Pastor’s Aide Committee.

Ethel enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball. She could be heard at games yelling, “Let’s Go, Jags.” She was a loving lady and will be sorely missed. Ethel enjoyed helping people, cooking and cleaning and dearly loved her Dallas Cowboys.

Ms. Miller will be remembered most as a loving, caring mother to her family and for being loyal to her friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents and one son, Rodrick Gene Miller.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons Gregory Wayne Miller and Sherry, Fred Miller and Tonya, and Vincent Miller, all of Hubbard; daughter Vernita Simmons and Danny, also of Hubbard; six grandchildren, Damion, Marcus, Shasta, Iesha, Ambria and Ambrelle; four great-grandchildren, Jazzyin, Kamryn, Marcus, Jr., and Layanna; and a host of other relatives and close friends.
