Donald R. Hawkins

Donald R. Hawkins, “D.R.,” 81, of Shiloh, passed away Sept. 16, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Septe. 19, at 11 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment followed at Shiloh Cemetery. Family visitation was held Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers were Jason Hawkins, Drake Hawkins, Matthew Paul, Scott Watkins, Jerry Watkins and Lance Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are all Watkins Construction employees.

Mr. Hawkins was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Teague to Joyce Wesley and Nellie Ruth Burleson Hawkins. He married Jo Nell Wood on Oct. 23, 1954, in Mexia. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mexia. D.R. was a very hard worker, making sure his family was always taken care of. He loved them and being around them was very important. He also kept an immaculate yard. He was a self-employed used car dealer and a new car salesman in Freestone and Limestone Counties. After he left the car business, he went to work for Watkins Construction in Corsicana as a heavy equipment operator, where he retired from after 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Roy W. Hawkins.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jo Nell (Wood) Hawkins of Shiloh; daughter, Donna J. Allen and husband, Jerry, of Forest Glade; son, Richard D. Hawkins of Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters, Brandi Allen Jones and husband, Michael, of Mexia and Lacy Allen Paul and husband, Matt, of Tyler; great-grandchildren, Kelsie Jones of Mexia and Carson and Paisley Paul of Tyler; and nephews, Jason Hawkins and wife, Nancy, of Gilmer, and Drake Hawkins and wife, Shelia, of Waxahachie.

The family ask that memorial contributions in Mr. Hawkins memory be made to the music department of First Baptist Church or Providence Hospice of Mexia.
