Donald Eddie Sanderson

Donald Eddie Sanderson, of Mexia, passed away Oct. 9, 2023, at his home at the age of 76.

Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in the Coolidge Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. David Snow officiating. There will also be a visitation on Saturday, prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Justin Cook, Steven Nodine, Keath Huff, Blaine Schulte, James Younger, Brent Mayfield, and Jason Ridge.

Donald was born Nov. 17, 1946, in Mexia, to John J. and Ruby Aline (Bunch) Sanderson. He was a lifelong resident of Mexia and a graduate of Mexia High School, Class of 1966. Donald married his high school sweetheart, Karen “Sue” Bullington, on Nov. 17, 1966, in Tehuacana. He retired from the Mexia State Supported Living Center after 33 years of service.

Donald’s family was the center of his life. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to spending time with his family, he had numerous other interests. He never met a stranger; he was a “people” person. Donald was interested in genealogy, enjoyed family and class reunions, playing 42 dominoes, putting puzzles together, and just visiting with anyone at any time. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, bird watching, and most outdoor activities. Other hobbies included woodworking and upholstery/sewing. Donald spent a number of years in the airborne and communication division of the National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Aline Sanderson; his wife of almost 54 years, Sue anderson Sanderson; brothers, Johnny and Richard Sanderson; son-in-law, John Cook; and niece, Shelli Larsen.

Donald is survived by his daughters, Lori Cook and James Younger and Tammy Schulte and husband Blaine; grandchildren, Jamie Nodine and husband Steven, Julie Mayfield and husband Brent, Justin Cook and wife Kourtney, Brittany Schulte and Sam Baez, and Bethany Schulte and Jonathan Haddock; great-grandchildren, Jessica Nodine, Steven Nodine Jr., Vanessa Nodine, Quentin Nodine, Dameon Cook, Lilly Gresham, Logan Nodine, Kiley Mayfield, Matthew Mayfield, Catelynn Mayfield, Zadie Mayfield, Allison Cook, John Cook, and Amelia Arroyo-Baez; sister, Brenda Ridge and Charlie Morris; nephews, Jason Ridge and wife Angela Ridge, Buster Horn, and Jeff Horn; niece, Rhonda Warner; sister-in-law, Kay Draughn; and numerous cousins.
