DINAH RUTH HOUSTON HIGH

Dinah Ruth Houston High was born March 7, 1952, in Mexia, to the parentage of Jesse Mae Riley. She passed away on April 12, 2021. Her father proceeded her in death.

Dinah attended Dunbar High School, however she graduated in 1970 from Mexia High School in Mexia. She received her Business degree in 1972 from Draughon’s Business College in Dallas. After college, she began her career working for Oak Cliff Savings and Loan, then on to Sun Oil Company, Mobile Oil and Red Ball Freightline, to name a few.

On June 12, 1971, she married the love of her life, James Walter High of Mexia; in this union, three children were born, one son, Trevon Rashod High proceeded her in death in 2007; and two daughters, Kerisha and Trevoye.

Dinah accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and became a member of True Way C.O.G.I.C in Dallas, in 1973. She served for many years in various positions within the church such as choir member and Sunshine Band Youth Leader. She received her Evangelist Missionary license within the Church of God In Christ (C.O.G.I.C) to continue in her call to ministry.

After several years of service at True Way C.O.G.I.C, she left to assist Fair Park COGIC under the leadership of Elder Diton McDonald and friends, where she also served faithfully in various positions. Several years later, her husband James joined Saintsville C.O.G.I.C and she joined as well. In 2013, she accepted her call to Pastor and founded Shekinah Temple Spirit of Truth Ministries, where she pastored until death.

Many knew Dinah as a sweet, loving, energetic, unique, extravagant and caring woman who loved people. She was a dedicated wife and mother who truly loved her family very much. She was known for her singing (hitting those “high notes”). She was also known for the large unique hats she wore, her very own designs.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 49 years, James Walter High; mother Jessie Mae Riley; two children, Kerisha High-Parker (Patrick) and Trevoye High (fiancé’, Del Rose): she has three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, many sons and daughters who loved her as Mother High, and friends she considered sisters and brothers.

Service entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home. Service to be held on Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mexia.
