DENNIS GLENN BUNDY

Dennis Glenn Bundy passed away on Aug. 24, 2020, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia at the age of 69. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mexia, with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery. Dave Chilcoat, Kenneth Mathison, Tommy Morton, Stephen Rodriguez, Fred Samford and Howard Tweedle will serve as pallbearers.

Dennis was born on April 16, 1951, in Muskogee, Okla. In 1967, his family moved to Mexia from Stigler, Okla. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1970. Dennis married Nancy Bradley on April 29, 1973, at Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia. His places of employment included the Mexia State School in the Transportation Department, Nucor Steel, Mexia Tank Company, Mexia Police Department as a Dispatcher and Reserve Officer, Limestone County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and jailer, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer, from which he retired after 20 years of service in 2006.

Dennis had many interests and hobbies. His favorite was playing golf with his friends and family. It was never too hot or too cold for the golf course. He also loved to fish, hunt, shoot pool, ride motorcycles and make things with his hands. Dennis tried to be the best he could be at everything he did, and he loved to share what he had learned with others. He played softball in the 1970s and 1980s as a pitcher, and coached the Renegades Ladies’ Softball Team, alongside Rudolph Erickson, in the 1980s. Dennis loved this team and was very proud of the dedication and hard work they put forth to be winners on the ballfield. They were always No. 1 in his eyes. Dennis had a good sense of humor and enjoyed teasing his friends and family; and he loved it when they teased him back. He had a good heart and loved helping people out when he could.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mary Ann Bundy; his mother-in-law, Juliette Bradley; his father-in-law, Richard Bradley; his stepmother-in-law, June Bradley; and brother-in-law, Dorman Perkins. Also, his brothers, Cecil Ward and Dale Nelson; and sisters, Jan Blair, Rena Nutt and Lisa Wells.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy Bundy, and son Richard, of Mexia; sister-in-law and brother-inlaw, Marilyn and Harlan Ashley, of Nevada; brother-in-law, Derward Cook, of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; brother Stacy O’Dell; sisters Claudia Hallum and Tammie Shanks, of Haskell, Okla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dennis will be truly missed by all who knew him.
