Della Thomas

Della Thomas was born on February 11, 1935, in Limestone County, to Mark and Ruby Lockhart. Della attended Woodland High School and was a head cook the majority of her life. Della accepted Christ at an early age in which she loved listening to gospel music.  Della was a devoted and dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Big Mama. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and gardening, and she loved to go fishing until she became ill.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was always a joy to be with.

She passed away on June 5.

Della will join in heaven her parents, Mark and Ruby Lockhart; her brothers, James Lockhart and Sam Lockhart; sisters, Margie Cotton and Opal Rose;  and three greatgreat-great grandchildren, Stephen Brown Stewart, Demon Henderson and Royalty Mason Bell.

Della leaves to cherish memories four generations, which include her four daughters; Lillie Jackson (Thomas) of Dallas, Eddie Mae Sims, Willie Pearl Davis, both of Teague, and Mona Lockhart of Kosse.  She also leaves behind one brother, Joe Lockhart (Gloria) and sister, Ruby Brown of Mexia; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Greater Haynes Memorial C.O.G.I.C.
