Clara Vernett McIlveen

The Angelic Hosts came for Mrs. Clara McIlveen, of Fairfield, on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, in Missouri City, Texas, where she was in the loving and tender care of her children.

Services, based upon the COVID-19 guidelines, were held Saturday morning, May 30, at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, 360 Church Street in Fairfield. Viewing preceded the funeral service. The Rev. Conrell Lockett officiated, and the Rev. Estell McIlveen was the eulogist. Interment was in the Fairfield Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. McIlveen was born in Teague on Oct. 18, 1928, and was the only child of Cuny and Roma Durham. She was the Valedictorian of the Dogan High School Class of 1946 in Fairfield. She retired from CON TEL Corporation. She was a dedicated member of Jones Chapel UMC and was a faithful member of the choir and other ministries of the church.

She and Clifford Lincoln McIlveen were married, and to this union five children were born.

Mrs. McIlveen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, R.W. Durham; and a son, Nelson McIlveen. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Minister Clifford Estell McIlveen (Ruby), of Sugar Land; daughters Linda McIlveen Robinson, of Houston, Sandra McIlveen Goosby (Frank), of Missouri City; son Gerry deGaullee McIlveen (Venterlene), of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five nieces; one nephew; and a host of relatives and friends.
