Cheryl Lynn McKinney

Cheryel Lynn McKinney, 64, passed away on the late evening of July 31, 2023, at Hillscrest Hospital. She was surrounded by family and scripture.

She was born in Axtell to Lutherene Davis and Edward McKinney on Feb. 22, 1959. She graduated from Hubbard High School. Cheryel worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years. After retirement, she enjoyed her time caring for her grandchildren, reading to them, teaching them how to cook, sew and journal. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Her favorite pastime was watching horror movies, comedy and westerns. She taught her children the importance of hard work, sacrifice, prayer and family love.

She is survived by her children, Tarshia McKinney (Sindey), Jacquelyne Devault (Freddie), Ashley McKinney (Antwan) and Shawndarian McKinney (Chelsea); grandchildren, Whitney Comer (Lukey), Sheena Brown (Kristian), Alexis McKinney, Desiree Haynes (Darnell), Amari Giddings (Willie), Jade Devault and Marley McKinney; great-grandchildren, Jahiree, Jahalee, Journee, Jacelyn, Kingston, Chance, Kai, Damarea, Aaliyah, Armoni, Damarion, Trae’Darius, Zy’King and Ka’mari.

Two sisters, Debra A. Foster (Billy Wayne) and Renetta McKinney (Jerry); four brothers, Warren G. McKinney (Linda), Rudolph “Scottie” McKinney Jr. (Claressa), James E. McKinney (Willie) and Frank E. McKinney; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service and arrangements entrusted to Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia. Service to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug.12, at United Methodist Church in Hubbard.
