CARL ‘WAYNE’ THOMPSON

Carl “Wayne” Thompson, of Donie, passed away Feb. 28, 2021, in Waco, at the age of 75. Visitation with family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with the Rev. David Snow officiating and Randy Barger speaking. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, between Donie and Groesbeck off Highway 164. Ron Arnold, Benji Taylor, Clay Thompson, Roy Welch, Randy Barger and Jace Floyd will serve as pallbearers.

Wayne was born Jan. 16, 1946, in Jewett, to Carl William and Thelma “Sadie” (Van Sickles) Thompson. He received a degree in Finance and Business from the University of Houston. Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated several successful restaurants in Colorado and Indiana and retired from Mexia State School, after 10 years of service.

Wayne married his lifelong partner, Janice Katherine Roberts, on Sept. 11, 1965, in Houston, and they were blessed with one daughter, Lisa, and one granddaughter, Del aney. His family was his life, his pride and joy. Wayne was a good, kind, generous man, and no matter the challenges or circumstances, he seemed to always have a way of making things happened in a positive way. He, also, had a soft heart when it came to animals of every kind. Although he enjoyed gardening, he loved giving the produce away even more. Another of his favorite things to do, was traveling. Wayne was a longtime, loyal member of the Teague Rodeo Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Sadie Thompson.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice Thompson of Donie; daughter, Lisa Thompson Moore; granddaughter, Delaney Thompson Moore; other relatives and numerous friends.
