BETTY LOU MOORE

Betty Lou Moore passed away May 9, 2021, at the age of 76.

Betty was born Feb. 7, 1945, in Groesbeck, to Dorothy Faye and R.T. Goolsby. The oldest of four children, Betty grew up in Groesbeck with her siblings Mary, Buddy and Linda. A country girl, she liked to cook and work on the farm. Betty attended Groesbeck schools until the tenth grade.

Betty married young. Her first husband, Earl Sexton, passed away shortly after the birth of their second son. She was introduced to her second husband, O.B. Moore Jr. through a family friend in Dallas in 1963. The pair were blessed with 42 years of marriage until his tragic death in 2007. Family was the most important thing in Betty’s life, and she loved her children: Jimmy Sexton, Michael Sexton, Ricky Moore, Sandra Moore Barker, and Randy Moore dearly. Although she loved all her children, being blessed with a baby girl after three sons was a joy. With her deep devotion to her family, it was especially difficult for her when she lost one of her grandchildren, Kevin Sexton, at the age of eight on the road in front of her home. It was a terrible time for her and her family.

Because Betty was so used to cooking for her big family, her job as a cook for the school in Mexia was a good fit for her. She worked there for many years. With her love of cooking and of family, her house was always the place to be for Christmas and Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful gathering with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty also loved to go on cruises, road trips and big church revivals.

A welcoming, sympathetic and strong woman, Betty will always be remembered for her smile. She was always involved in the church and was a prayer warrior. She loved the Lord and encouraged her children to do the same at an early age. Thus, she loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Betty leaves behind her children, Ricky and Mary Moore, Johnny and Sandra Barker, and Randy and Bronna Michelle Moore; her grandchildren, Josh Barker, Jake Barker, Misty Ames, Billy Moore, Mary Moore Solis, Sean Pagel, Randon Moore, Jesse Barker, Skye Moore and lots of great-grandchildren.

To honor Betty’s life, her family held a visitation on Thursday, May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Corley-Porter Funeral Home. Her funeral service was held on Friday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Corley-Porter Funeral Home. Burial was followed at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Mexia.
