Benny taught school for 19 years in Colorado and Texas and was an administrator in Mexia ISD schools for another 19 years.

Benny married the love of his life, Nell (Daugherty) Lucas in 1952. He was a devoted husband, and loved his family, leading them and those around him by his good example. He was a member of the Church of Christ and preached the gospel in West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and later in Thornton and Shiloh.

Farming and growing peaches was something Benny truly enjoyed. He had a special love for young people. Respect and support for those around him were important to “Mr. Lucas,” and he was a role model for many students in learning how to truly succeed in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Marie Randall Lucas; wife, Wilna Nell Lucas; and sister, Patricia Ann Prince.

Benny is survived by his four children: Benny Lucas Jr., Kathleen Reaves, Wilna Durham and Anna Alpert; brother, Joe Lucas; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to: Mexia Academic Awards & Scholarship Program, P.O. Box 534, Mexia, TX 76667.
