ALVIS EUGENE WEDGMAN

Mr. Alvis Eugene Wedgman, of Groesbeck, passed away June 8, 2021, at the age of 84.

Alvis was the son of Jack and Ella Belle Wedgman and had 14 siblings, including step- and half-brothers. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He graduated magna cum laude, with degrees in both Electrical Engineering from The University of Houston and Mathematics from Athens State College. He worked for Space Craft Inc. in Huntsville, Ala., and Houston as an electrical engineer from 1962 to 1975 as well as Universal Data Systems in Huntsville, Ala., as an electrical engineer from 1975 to 1993 until he returned to his home state of Texas in 1993. Upon moving back to Texas, Alvis loved farming on his many acres, spending time with his family, and was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Mexia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four stepbrothers, Melvin Owen, Elton Owen, Alton Owen and Glen Owen and one stepsister, Hazel Owen; four half-brothers, James Owen, Billy Jo Owen, Henry Owen, and Jessie Owen; and two brothers, Bill Wedgman and Clifton Wedgman, and one sister, Louise Anderson.

He is survived by the love of his life, Dawn Joan Wedgman, after 59 years of marriage; his two children, Melinda Mattox and Matthew Wedgman (Ashley); two stepchildren, Caryl Lee Griffith (Jeff) and Ann Marie Cole (Gary); five grandchildren, Brandon Griffith (Lindsey), Amber Zigler (Geoffrey), Alexander Wedgman, Sarah Wedgman, and Eli Wedgman; and two great grandchildren, Jace Griffith and Emma Zigler. He is also survived by his two brothers, Modock Owen and Gary Lynn Owen.

Alvis will be remembered for his quiet humor, his strong work ethic, his love for his wife and children, and his love for God and country.

A graveside celebration of life will be planned in Texas this fall.
