Albert Jennings Nabors Jr.

Albert Jennings Nabors Jr. passed away Aug. 23, 2018, in Mexia, at the age of 88 years. Visitation with the family was held Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services, 931 S. Hwy. 171, in Mexia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Mexia, with the Rev. Ed Spivey officiating. Burial will be in Mexia Cemetery immediately after the service. Pallbearers will be Kevin Nabors, Shane Turner, Kent Vest, Matt Heiner, Weston Duncan and Garrett Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Cade Duncan and Austin Hanna.

Albert was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Ben Hur, to Albert Jennings Nabors Sr. and Cordie Copeland Nabors. Albert graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1946 and married Billie Joyce Bradshaw on Aug. 16, 1950. They had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Albert began working in the dry-cleaning business in Mexia around 1947 and later purchased Jim Brady Cleaners in 1954 and Maddox Cleaners in 1962, which became Nabors Cleaners and is still an existing business today under new ownership. After Albert retired from the cleaning business in 1988, he went back to school and got his real estate license. He began working for Realty Plus in Mexia and later joined Hometown Reality, where he retired.

Albert was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Mexia, and a member of the Rotary Club, where he earned the Paul Harris Award. He was a member of Mexia ISD School Board, a member of the Limestone County Appraisal District Board and was involved in other community activities. Even though Albert was dedicated to his business and civic endeavors, he always had time for his children and grandchildren.

Albert was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert Jennings Nabors Sr. and Cordie Ganzer; a brother, John Wesley Nabors Sr.; two sisters, Mary Nola Nabors and JoAnn Fisher; and a grandson, Lance Alan Duncan.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Joyce Nabors; son John Edward Nabors and wife Diana; two daughters, Debbie Turner and husband Robby, and Tommie Duncan and husband Richard; five grandchildren, Kevin Nabors and wife Suzette, Shane Turner and wife Karina, Robyn Turner and Chris Mason, Amanda Heiner and husband Matt, and Kristen Vest and husband Kent; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
