SARA DIAN FREDERICK

Sara Dian Frederick, of Wortham, passed away on March 2, 2021, in Waco, at the age of 73, following a long battle with cancer. A family visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 5, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Rosary, with Father Benji, will begin immediately following visitation at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Pius Matthew and Father Larry Covington officiating. Interment will follow in the Wortham Cemetery. Her nephews Marty Bowen, Jamie Goolsby, Harry Goolsby, Paul Goolsby Jr., Kent Vogel and Stephen Wilson will serve as pallbearers.

Dian was born April 17, 1947, in Corsicana, to James Randolph Goolsby Sr. and Ethel Marie (Winstead) Goolsby. After graduating Valedictorian of Wortham High School, Class of 1965, she received an Associates Degree from Navarro College. Dian began her working career as a beautician, following in her mother’s footsteps. They worked together at The Home Beauty Shop for many wonderful, memorable years. Following in her father’s footsteps, Dian became a rural mail carrier and later retired as an insurance broker.

She was known as Dian by many but was more affectionately known as “DeDe” by her family. She loved her children dearly, but her grandchildren truly owned her heart. DeDe always made every effort to attend and support everything her children and grandchildren were involved in. Dian was a strong woman of faith. She was a longtime active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she taught several religious education classes, and participated in many other activities.

Dian was an earthly angel who was accepting of all; she walked the walk. She embraced everything in life and lived it to the fullest. Family was her greatest work of art, and she made each person feel as if they were her greatest treasure. You always knew where you stood with DeDe and she never minced words. She loved deeply and was a confidante to many. BIG is how she lived her life!

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Goolsby; husbands, Ronnie Griffin and David Frederick; and nephew, Jim Rodgers.

Dian is survived by her children, Pellie Goolsby of Wortham, Mollie McCoslin and husband Heath of Wortham, and Lee Griffin of Mexia; grandchildren, Austen Griffin, Rylee Goolsby, Cade, Allie, and Grace McCoslin; sisters Claudia Stitle and husband Dick of Aledo and Judy Bowen and husband Martin of Ft. Worth; brothers, Randy Goolsby and wife Kathy of Wortham, David Goolsby and wife Jayleene of Aledo, and Paul Goolsby and wife Annette of Richland Chambers; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Memorials may be made to Multiple Myeloma Foundation at www.myeloma.org, the Wortham Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 153, Wortham, TX 76693 or Saint Mary’s Catholic Church of Mexia.
