It’s not going to be a blizzard like the Texas Panhandle saw earlier in the week, but frigid weather is coming to Mexia in a couple of days.

Limestone County NAACP presents “MLK The Man” at noon Monday, Jan. 15 at St. John AME Church, 308 W. Milam in Mexia.

A story Saturday, Jan. 6, “St. Luke UMC leading MLK Day celebration” incorrectly identified keynote speaker the Rev. Dr. E. Alan Benson as a past president of the Mexia branch of the NAACP. He is a past president of the Topeka, KS, NAACP branch. He was inspired by a former Mexia NAACP president, the late Sister Ada Conner.

When the church where my Wife and I grew up started supporting the Zambia Medical Mission, two couples and some young people joined this work. They brought back many reports and stories about the work being done there. One of the things they did was they collected small windup toys for the children, the kind that you used to get in a “Happy Meal” from McDonalds. And while the people waited in line for medical help they handed them out to the children.
