Limestone County Judge Richard Duncan shared some good news for the county on Tuesday, Sept. 27, during what was otherwise an uneventful Commissioners Court meeting. “As y’all may or may not know, I signed a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service to increase our population at the Limestone County Detention Center,” Duncan said. “The contract was for a minimum of 150 new inmates from the Cherokee Nation just north of Tulsa, Oklahoma. That 150 is probably going to get closer to 200 or 250 inmates, and what that means for Limestone County is an additional $1.50 per inmate per day, which will be close to between $10,000 and $12,000 a month. Let me tip my hat to all of y’all who made the smart decision in my opinion to sell that facility when we did.”
There are so many services available for people who just don’t know how to access them, said Ketsia Mason, Veteran Outreach case manager at Caritas in Waco.
