Limestone County was established by an act of the Texas Legislature on April 11, 1846. An additional legislative act established Springfield as the county seat on April 18, 1846, and organization of the county government was completed on Aug. 18, 1846, with the election of county officials.
The 100th anniversary of the Limestone County Courthouse will be observed in December with a celebration, according to William Reagan, president of the Limestone County Historical Commission.
