New coordinator joins Mexia chamber

Limestone County native Sarah Myers will be the chamber coordinator for the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce.

Myers spent the first week on the job getting to know chamber board members and others in the community. She started work Monday, March 28.

“I’m just happy to get started and see what we can do,” Myers said. “I’m ready to tackle some new ideas. I want to get some input from the chamber members and find out what they would like to see happen.” Myers went to Groesbeck High School, and she is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University where she studied psychology. She worked in a law office and a title company, Reed and Reed in Groesbeck, for about five years before becoming a real estate agent. She will be working for the chamber part-time while continuing her work in real estate sales with Hometown Realty.

Myers is married to Barrett Myers, who is also a native of Groesbeck and works at the Kosse Mine, and they have two dogs.

Myers said she wanted to work for the chamber for a change of pace. “I wanted to do something a little bit more diverse, and I’m really excited,” she said. “It sounds like a lot of fun. I think it’s going to be good.”

The first week of work included a ribbon-cutting for a chamber member, Keathley Counseling Services, and the chamber staff is now preparing for the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament at the Tri-County Gold Club at the Vineyards Saturday, April 12.

Myers said she is looking forward to beginning preparations for the annual summer Mexia Rodeo in June. “We’re getting with some sponsors to try and get things moving on that,” she said.
