Mexia students invited to audition for talent show

Mexia students of any age are encouraged to try out for the upcoming Rotary Club of Mexia’s 68th Annual Talent Show, scheduled for March 8.

“We’re looking for talented Mexia students to come to the auditions and show us what you can do,” said Talent Show director Dr. Nathan Gonzalez. The people of Mexia will be amazed at your talent. And the proceeds of the show will fund Rotary projects in Mexia.

“We’re also encouraging local businesses to help sponsor the show,” he added.

The auditions are next week, Feb. 13, 14 and 15, and it’s the perfect time for students to show off their performance skills, such as singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, or even other skills.

The tryouts begin at 3:35 p.m., with Tuesday’s auditions being held at the Mexia High School Auditorium.

Wednesday’s auditions also begin at 3:35 p.m. at the Junior High Cafetorium.

Finally, Thursday’s auditions begin at 3:35 p.m. in the music room of A.B. McBay Elementary School.

Many past entrants sang, rapped, danced, did the Hula-Hoop, performed cheers or showed other skills that enthralled audiences.

Those chosen in the auditions have a few weeks to polish their acts before a dress rehearsal on Thursday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m.

The talent show itself is set for Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at the Mexia High School Auditorium.

Those who perform in the show may win cash prizes awarded that night.

About six to nine contestants will be chosen in the junior category, which is pre-kindergarten to fifth grade, with the top five acts winning cash prizes.

Another six to nine contestants will be chosen in the senior category, which is sixth grade to senior high school, with the top five acts winning cash prizes.

The judges will then choose the top overall act for an additional cash prize.
