Mexia’s Boomin’ on the Fourth still on for Saturday

Despite new COVID-19 limitations announced by Gov. Abbott Thursday, Mexia’s Fourth of July celebration is going forward, following those limitations that apply.

Limestone County currently has 12 active COVID-19 cases, so the public mask-wearing requirement does not apply, only counties with more than 20 cases.

Abbott’s order also limits gatherings of more than 10, but one of the exceptions is if the attendees are exercising outdoors, which they can be expected to do.

Consequently, organizers say masks are recommended but not required.

Chamber of Commerce President Linda Archibald also noted that often-used surfaces will be cleaned frequently, such as the tables under the Pavilion, where winners of the Firecracker 5K Run/1 Mile Walk will be announced about 9:30 a.m. The bounce houses will also be sprayed with disinfectant from time to time.

Attendees are encouraged to practice social distancing and bring hand sanitizer so they may clean their hands often.
